Drum kit wedding cake and Germany beats Argentina woohoo

Well hello everyone!!
What a glorious day. Managed to get my Wedding cake finished in great time and Germany beat Argentina 4-0 happy days for me and my German companion Mr. Ben, very happy and high spirits all around :D

So the cake was an adventure for sure. It took a while to figure out what to use for the drum kit. My rice krispie treats didn't work. I thought once I'd applied a layer of roayl icing they would harden up but I was wrong. I also tried making the kit out of fondant and thought it worked i just felt that it looked a bit chunky. Finally I decided on liquorice wheels and liquorice allsorts for my kit as well as fondant and it worked a treat. I pressed two liquorice wheels together and applied a thin layer of white fondant and a strip of black around the edges. It worked so nicely and I was finally happy. Third time lucky!!

From there on it was nice and easy. As it was a chocolate biscuit cake I applied a layer of buttercream frosting to it and let it chill for an hour. This stops the chocolate colour seeping through to the white fondant icing. I rolled out the white fondant with my super duper massive silicon rolling pin!!! :D using icing sugar to stop it sticking to the table, then I applied it to the cake and smoothed it down with my cake smoother tool :)

Next came the ribbon. Two colours, black and white, simple but very effective and finished with a little bow. I set the drum kit on a circle of black fondant to make it stand out and it did! Finally, I used my little Dr. Oetker black writing pen and drew on musical notes all around the base of the cake. Hope you like the finished product as I enjoyed making and creating it. I handed over the cake to my client who was delighted so yay! Another satisfied customer hurrah!!!
